GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Growing interest into building a large aquarium in Grand Rapids, similar to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, has led to some early discussions on the subject.
John Ball Zoo CEO Peter D’Arienzo says they’ve actually been looking into the idea for the past few years.
“Were talking on the scale of something like the Shedd Aquarium. One of the top aquariums in the United States.”
He adds a community study would be next, followed by a detailed economic study and then figuring out how it could be paid for. D’Arienzo says it would likely be built somewhere along the riverfront in Grand Rapids.
It could be five to ten years before it’s completed if the project comes to fruition.
