KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo is in the process of repairing a water main break on West Kilgore Road that resulted in a temporary loss of pressure. Because of that, a precautionary boil water advisory has been issued in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department for all water intended for drinking or ingestion or any consumptive uses within the affected area, including:
West Kilgore Road – From Duke Street (western boundary) to South Westnedge Avenue (western boundary), both sides of the street. It does NOT include the northeast and southeast corners of West Kilgore Road and Duke Street.
South Westnedge Avenue (Section 1) – From West Kilgore Road (southern boundary) to approximately 275 feet north (northern boundary), west side of the street.
South Westnedge Avenue (Section 2) – From the southwest corner of South Westnedge Avenue and West Kilgore Road (eastern boundary) to 625 approximately feet west (western boundary), south side of the street.
City officials say the advisory is precautionary only. There have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main at the location of the infrastructure repair.
It’s expected that the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours, possibly lasting until Thanksgiving Day.
Water customers in the affected area can use bottled water or boil their tap water for two minutes prior to use for drinking or other ingestion. No special precautions are necessary for water used for personal hygiene.
