EAST LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State University has reportedly turned over 45,000 pages to the Attorney General’s office so far, in compliance with their criminal investigation into the Larry Nassar scandal to date.
25,000 pages were seized during a raid on February 5th, targeting Dean William Strample, Nassar’s boss.
Interim President John Engler has begun the process of firing Strample, who is tenured and reportedly has been out on medical leave since December. 20,000 more documents were produced this weekend.
MSU did not transmit information to the Michigan House, which had set a Friday deadline for receiving the requested pages. Instead they reportedly sent a letter requesting an extension on their deadline.
Committee Chairs Klint Kesto and Kim LaSata have granted that extension, and released a joint statement saying “This information is important to our ability to improve state law and build a better, safer system for crime victims and students.”
They added. “We look forward to reviewing this information, finding points of failure in the university’s process and beginning work on important reforms that can ensure these mistakes will never be made again.”
