ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – A “Sheltering in Place” drill was enacted by Allegan Public Schools for three of its buildings on Tuesday morning following a report of a man walking along M-40 with a rifle.
The first-stage lockdown, which came following notification from Allegan city police to district officials and lasted about 30 minutes, didn’t disrupt classes or regular activities at Allegan High School, LE White Middle School and West Ward Elementary School. However, no students, teachers or staff were allowed to leave their buildings, and no visitors were allowed entrance. An all-clear was issued about 10:10 AM when it was determined that the unnamed man was not armed and didn’t pose a threat to the schools affected.
The district used its Facebook page and a text-messaging alert system to notify parents of the matter.
