DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Shohei Ohtani put on a display of brilliance as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Detroit Tigers 3-1 Wednesday night at Comerica Park.
The two-way star dazzled on the mound, going a season-high eight innings and racking up eight strikeouts. He allowed only six hits and one run to earn his eighth win of the year. Ohtani also added his MLB-leading 40th homer with a solo shot in the eighth.
Justin Upton also homered for Los Angeles, which has won three of its last four.
Willi Castro went deep for Detroit, which dropped its third straight. Tarik Skubal was charged with his 11th loss, despite going six-and-two-thirds on the mound.
Miguel Cabrera went one-for-four at the plate and remains at 499 career homers.
Matt Manning gets the nod for Detroit and Jose Quintana goes to the mound for L.A. in this afternoon’s series finale. The opening pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
