PLAINWELL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The world’s largest meatpacking company, which has a local plant, was hit by a Cyber attack similar to one that shut down the Colonial Pipeline last month.
JBS shuttered its slaughter houses in Australia Monday and in the U.S. Tuesday as a result of a ransomware demand. The White House says they believe the hack originated in Russia.
The impact on the local JBS beef processing plant in Allegan was not released yesterday, but a report from WWMT Wednesday confirmed that the Plainwell location was affected.
The plant was shut down on Tuesday due to the attack.
Officials said most of the plants should be fully operational again today, and a meat shortage is currently not expected.
