GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — A third suspect in a deadly Grand Rapids shooting is apparently under arrest.
17-year-old Israel Valdez, who court documents contend was the teen that pulled the trigger on East Kentwood High School classmate James King, turned himself in overnight.
Investigators say Valdez shot King when he tried to get out of their car, when King realized the four others were trying to steal his marijuana, rather than buy it.
It happened at the Town & Country Shopping Center last Sunday. Eighteen-year-old Alanah Claflin-Gallagos and 17-year-old Ahmed Hasan have already been arrested and charged with open murder, assault with intent to rob while armed and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Police are still searching for 17-year-old Kayleb Sims in connection to the case. They believe he was driving the car.
Valdez’s mother, Jennifer Valdez, is being charged with allegedly lying to a police officer about talking to her son about the crime.
