KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo City Commission has approved an increase in parking fines for the dozens of violations that might draw a ticket downtown.
Drivers could be cited for anything from an expired meter, to parking too far from the curb, to leaving their car in a handicap spot without proper privileges.
Several free parking spaces still exist downtown, but a stay of over 90 minutes will also draw a ticket.
In general, fees will jump between 50 percent and 100 percent.
The new fee schedule takes effect July 1.
Rate increases have also been proposed and, if approved, would take effect next summer.
