ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – The chief judge of the Allegan County Circuit Court wants to remain on the bench for another six years. Circuit Judge Margaret Bakker has announced plans to seek re-election to the judgeship to which she was voted to in 2010. Prior to becoming a judge, Bakker worked in the county prosecutor’s office for 28 years. She says the court has made significant progress in providing quality service to the community during her tenure. Under Bakker’s leadership, the county has established a legal assistance center to help those who can’t afford legal representation, refined its jury selection system and improved services to Friend of the Court. She adds the county is continuing to work on modernizing its court technology, security and efficiency in processing cases. Bakker serves on the executive board of the Michigan Judges Association and chairs its rules committee.
