UNION CITY (WKZO) — The U.S. Geological Service is confirming that there was a minor earthquake at about 11:42 this morning, centered just northwest of Takonsha next to Warner Lake in Southern Calhoun County.
It measured 3.3 on the Richter scale, which was weaker than the 4.2 magnitude quake that rattled Scotts in southern Kalamazoo County earlier this spring.
No damage was reported, although there are reports it was felt all over the region.
Julie Dutton with the U.S.G.S. says this may very well have been an aftershock from the earlier quake, or a new quake caused by he same pressures along a fault line that seems to run under southern Kalamazoo County down though Branch County.
The strongest quake ever felt in the region was a 4.6 magnitude quake that rattled nerves in the Coldwater area in 1947, and is believed to be proof of a fault buried deep below southern Michigan.
