KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s been over 10 months since talks began about a new Chick-fil-A on the west side of Kalamazoo, now it seems like the plans may be coming together.
Construction equipment has appeared on a plot of land at the corner of Drake Road and West Main Street which could be the groundwork for the new restaurant location.
Last April the Kalamazoo City Commission approved a rezoning request for that area and the Chick-fil-A name began to circle around as the possible operator. However, some city officials have disagreed with the idea stating that the owners of the national chicken chain have actively supported hate groups and have opposed gay rights efforts nationwide.
Commissioners still moved forward with the rezoning after the attorney reminded them that the firm has met all the city’s requirements.
It’s unclear how long it will take to construct or when the restaurant could open.
