BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek police have arrested a 49-year-old man after a shooting that injured a 26-year-old Battle Creek woman Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to the 200 block of Capital Avenue NE just before 7 p.m. Tuesday and found the woman with a gunshot wound to her lower left leg.
They applied a tourniquet and moved her to a safe location, and don’t believe her injury is life-threatening.
Officers found the suspect at the scene a short time later and detained him without incident.
Detectives also executed a search warrant at a residence connected to the shooting, recovering evidence that will undergo a forensic examination.
He is in the Calhoun County Jail on charges of assault with intent to murder and multiple weapons offenses.
The victim and suspect know each other.
Police believe the shooting was domestic-related and not a random act of violence.
