QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Groundbreaking will take place next week for a huge solar project just outside of Quincy.
Construction of DTE’s Cold Creek Solar Park is funded by Ford Motor Company’s clean energy agreement with DTE Energy, through the MIGreenPower program.
This is the largest purchase from a utility in U.S. history. DTE officials say when complete in 2026, the park will enable Ford to attribute 100% of electricity used in its Michigan assembly plants to carbon-free, renewable energy.
The 100 megawatt solar panel project will span Coldwater, Quincy, and Butler Townships on leased property east of Fiske Road to Ridge Road, between Jonesville Road to just north of U.S. 12.
The 4-by-8-foot panels collect sun from both sides, 10 feet at the highest, on poles driven into the ground.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be Tuesday, April 15 beginning at 10:15 a.m. DTE representatives will be joined by guests from Ford, local officials, and landowners.
