PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Almost three months after multiple tornadoes touched down in southwest Michigan, the U.S. Small Business Administration says it will keep open its Portage Disaster Loan Outreach Center longer than originally anticipated.
The center was set to close July 26, but operations will now run through August 9, because of what officials call “ongoing activity.”
According to Capt. Kevin Sweeney, deputy state director of Emergency Management and commander of the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division, “The rapid administrative declaration allows affordable disaster loans and assistance to more quickly come to those who were impacted. Homeowners, renters, business owners and nonprofits will have the resources to rebuild and thrive.”
The SBA granted a “rapid administrative declaration of disaster,” the first of its kind in the nation.
Through August 9, customer service representatives with the SBA will be available to answer questions, help people apply for an SBA Disaster Loan, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status at Portage City Hall.
