LANSING, MI — The city of Lansing on Monday began work on a project to resurface about 1.5 miles of Michigan Ave. The project stretches from the Frandor Shopping Center to the west to Sparrow Hospital.
Drivers are being urged to detour at Pennsylvania Avenue and Howard Street, discouraging through traffic in the area. Various sections will completely close to through traffic over the next few weeks, the city says, as crews work on a few blocks at a time, starting from the east end and heading west.
Once completed, Michigan Ave. will be minus one eastbound car travel lane, which will be removed during the project with extra space added for bike lanes in both directions.
