COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission wants it to be clear to everyone that if the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township does not pass inspections, it will not be allowed to restart.
April Nguyen heads up the NRC’s Palisades restart team and says they are actively working on inspections.
The agency says the steam generator at the plant needs more inspections, more testing, and more repairs.
Nguyen says their report indicated they found more issues with the generator than they expected.
No nuclear power plant that was shut down to be decommissioned in the United States has ever been restarted.
