BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police are looking for information that will help their investigations into a pair of weekend shootings.
The first took place early Saturday morning at a Liberty Mart in Post Addition. The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. at 240 Cliff Street.
Police responded about six hours later when a 39-year-old man arrived at a local hospital for medical treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the thigh.
Police said the suspect vehicle pulled into the Liberty Mart parking lot. The victim walked to the vehicle, reportedly to ask for money. As he got close to the vehicle, a man in the passenger-side backseat shot at the victim, and a round hit the victim in the thigh. As the victim walked away, the suspect fired additional rounds.
A woman driving the car had gone into the Liberty Mart while this took place. Afterward, she drove the car away from the store.
A family member took the victim to the hospital later that morning. Police say the suspect is a man in his 30s who has a medium build. The gun was described as a black, semi-automatic handgun.
The suspect vehicle is a dark green, four-door, 2000-2007 Chevrolet Impala in poor condition.
The second shooting took place on West Rittenhouse Avenue early Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched at 2:46 a.m. Sunday to the first block of West Rittenhouse for a shots fired complaint. When officers arrived, they found several bullet shell casings in the road.
As police arrived at the scene of the shooting, a 37-year-old Battle Creek man arrived at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right arm. He was treated and released. Police believe this shooting happened after an earlier dispute at a local bar.
