KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – US-131 between I-94 and Parkview Avenue in Kalamazoo County will soon be the “Master Sergeant Gregory T. Kuhse Memorial Highway” to honor the Air Force member killed October 11th of 2015 in Afghanistan.
Kuhse was 38 when he died in a non-hostile crash of a British Puma Mk2 helicopter.
He graduated from Comstock High School in 1995, was a married father of four, and had been in the U.S. Air Force for 19 years when he was killed.
The helicopter crashed when it was landing at the NATO Resolute Support Mission headquarters in Kabul and Kuhse was one of five people who died.
The state House and state Senate passed Senate Bill 274 unanimously earlier this year to name the highway for Kuhse.
A dedication ceremony will be held this morning.
