KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools students will be part of a large art project during the upcoming Bronson Park Outdoor Art Show.
“Inside Out: We Are Kalamazoo Artists,” is the brainchild of KPS lead art teacher Mandy Clearwaters, and will contain close to 1000 black and white portraits of
students in several poses.
The pictures will line the sidewalks of Bronson Park from May 19-31, and are part of a worldwide art project called the “Inside Out Project”.
The portraits, which are about 3 feet by 41⁄2 feet, were taken by KPS staff and volunteers over the past two months.
The installation is part of the worldwide “Inside Out Project,” a participatory art platform, which was created by the French artist known as JR. “Inside Out” allows everyone to share their untold stories by creating a work of public art. Since 2011, more than 400,000 people from 149 countries and territories have
participated in the project.
The portraits will be part of the KPS all-district art show, which has been held in Bronson Park, since the pandemic.
Works from students in all grade levels are printed on yard signs that are displayed throughout the park.
The public is invited to attend.
