KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two Kalamazoo residents escaped uninjured when their house caught on fire late Saturday evening, April 22.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officers responded to the fire in the 1800 block of State Street around 11:37 p.m.
Upon arrival, they observed fire and smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom.
Crews first tackled the fire from the outside which allowed them to gain entry into the house. They then aggressively attacked the interior, putting the fire out within 10 minutes.
Authorities say the fire damage was contained to the bedroom and attic space directly above it.
The two occupants got out safely and no firefighters were injured during the incident.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Office.
