KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — To help put a bite in the human trafficking crisis, the Kalamazoo Area Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition and YWCA Kalamazoo are teaming up to offer a free day of training to the public at large.
The training day of reflection and learning put together by both organizations is set to take place on Friday, January 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fetzer Center on the campus of Western Michigan University.
The free training event will feature input from experts as they discuss the narrative changes within the anti-human trafficking field. They will also share best practices in service delivery, as well as offer up a question and answer panel with some of the top criminal justice professionals in Michigan.
The training will also cover a range of topics reflecting on the decade of work the Kalamazoo Area Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition and the YWCA have done in the community.
The day will wrap up with a survivor-lead conversation and leave attendees with an action plan for the next steps.
The Fetzer Center on WMU Campus is located at 2251 Business Court, Kalamazoo.
It is recommended that those wishing to attend pre-register on the Google Form at www.KAAHTC.org/events. Complimentary lunch will be offered to anyone who pre-registers. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Formed in 2012, the Kalamazoo Area Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition is a nonprofit community member organization that comes together to raise awareness and advocate for services in the Kalamazoo area and is a recognized regional task force under the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force.
YWCA Kalamazoo supports survivors of violence from their emergency-immediate needs to future safety plans. They have dedicated staff members working individually with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking to assist them with their healing process. Advocates meet with survivors to discuss current needs and to refer them to resources and services throughout the community. Additionally, advocates assist with safety planning, court appearance, filing protective orders etc.
