KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The firing of former Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley has the leader of the Kalamazoo’s NAACP asking questions.
Coakley was let go after a month’s long investigation into the Chief’s behavior.
Kalamazoo NAACP President Wendy Fields says they were promised that as soon as City Manager Jim Ritsema had the investigative report back that he would make it public, that did not happen.
Former Kalamazoo City Commissioner Jack Urban suggested the situation could have been handled better.
Several city commissioners commented that it was a difficult thing for everyone.
Commissioner Jeanne Hess praised the bravery of the women who came forward with the allegations that resulted in Coakley’s termination.
Commissioner Qianna Decker urged Ritsema to make a statement to clear the air about they way it was handled, but he didn’t last night.
