KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Twenty-four rescued dogs from Puerto Rico and Florida are now in Southwest Michigan and are looking for new forever homes.
The charity Wings of Rescue flew 116 dogs and cats to both Chicago and Kalamazoo over last weekend, with 24 of them going to the SPCA of Southwest Michigan in Kalamazoo.
As hurricanes Fiona and Ian came down, the pets were taken out of the shelters there to make room for other pets that lost their families during the storms.
Executive director of SPCA of Southwest Michigan, Katie Timber said, “These dogs have been phenomenal. They’ve really been going through some of the most traumatic, vulnerable situations. I was shocked at how behaviorally sound and sweet they are”
Timber said also that veterinarians are working hard to get all the dogs ready for adoption by this weekend.
Those interested in possibly adopting a pet are encouraged to stop by the shelter and spend some time with the dogs.
The shelter is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is located at 6955 West KL Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009
