KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Criminal charges have been filed against the suspected drunk driver who allegedly killed a Western Michigan University student back in August of this year.
Angel Hostiguin is now facing charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, a maximum 15-year-felony, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, a maximum 5-year felony.
Hostiguin was driving the vehicle that hit 21-year-old Kaylee Ann Gansberg of Illinois back on Saturday, August 27. The incident occurred near the intersection of West Michigan Avenue and Howard Street according to police.
Gansberg was taken to the hospital where she later died.
The Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney completed it’s review of the incident on Wednesday, September 21.
Gansberg’s death markes the second time a WMU student was killed by a suspected drunk driver in less than a year. 19-year-old Bailey Broderick was hit by a car while walking off-campus on Fraternity Village Drive back in November of 2021.
