PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage police have now identified the 22-year-old fatal victim of a Friday evening shooting as Naya Reynolds of Kalamazoo.
As of Monday morning, a second female victim, who is pregnant, is in stable condition at Bronson Hospital along with the infant who had also been shot. The unborn baby was not injured.
The male who fled the scene and was taken into custody reportedly is not cooperating with the investigation. Additional witness interviews described the suspect vehicle as a small to midsize SUV black in color. Portage police say with that, the initial witness report of a Pontiac Grand Am is no longer being sought.
Friday around 10:50 pm., Portage Public Safety fire and police divisions responded to a report of a shooting between the occupants of two vehicles on the Oakland Drive west bound entrance ramp to I-94. Upon arrival, two women and an infant were found shot. Reynolds was transported to the Borgess Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A 42-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested near the scene on unrelated warrants after he was seen fleeing the area and attempted to enter the vehicle of a
passing motorist.
An AR-15 rifle was recovered at the scene and determined to have been reported stolen in Kalamazoo County in 2016.
