PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While most people wouldn’t consider within the city limits, that’s exactly what’s happening in Portage next weekend.
Portage Parks and Recreation will be hosting the National Wildlife Federation “Great American Campout” Saturday, June 25 through Sunday, June 26. This year
the event has moved to Schrier Park, 850 West Osterhout Avenue.
The “Great American Campout” is for all levels of campers and is family friendly. Throughout the weekend, organizers say campers will enjoy s’mores, campfire
snacks, dinner, and breakfast. They will learn survival skills, play camp games, create classic camp crafts, enjoy a bonfire, and participate in a Ranger-led hike.
All food and activities are included in the registration fee.
Check-in and camp set-up will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25 with check-out Sunday, June 26 by 10:30 a.m.
Restrooms will be open during this event. Campers are required to bring their own tents.
The fee to participate is $50 per campsite. Space is limited, with the registration deadline Monday, June 20 at mypark.portagemi.gov.
The rain date is scheduled for July 30 – 31.
