PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Portage is inviting the public to a dedication ceremony for the new Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Friday, June 17.
The ceremony will take place at the corner of Constitution Boulevard and Martin Luther King Drive at 10 a.m., and will marks the beginning of construction on the new park along with commemorating Juneteenth.
The land for the development of Martin Luther King Jr. Park was donated by Village Green Properties LLC, with construction expected to be complete in fall 2022.
The park will include a series of five bronze sculptures highlighting Dr. King and his messages, a “Garden of Hope,” “Beacon of Light” landscape corridors, interpretive graphics highlighting Dr. King’s legacy, and meditative benches and shade trees.
The event is free with light refreshments provided.
