VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Van Buren County Deputies were called out to Antwerp Township on Sunday, April 24, to help recover a van that rolled into Lake Brownwood.
Deputies responded around 12:54 p.m. to Fairbanks Avenue to find the vehicle fully submerged in Lake Brownwood just northwest of Paw Paw.
Authorities say the driver, a 37-year-old man was attempting to back his 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan out of a private drive on Fairbanks Avenue when the brakes on the vehicle failed.
The driver was unable to stop the van as it rolled backward off a seawall and into 6 to 8 feet of water.
A dive team was called in to help recover the Dodge that remained in the lake for about two more hours before it was transported away by a local tow company.
No injuries were reported.
