KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While there has been a lot of new construction in Kalamazoo in recent years, the City itself held its first groundbreaking in a decade Wednesday to mark the construction of their newest Public Safety Station #2.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley says the $9.5 million complex will replace the 70-year old fire station which is just a half block to the east on Bryant Street, and will serve the Edison and Milwood neighborhoods.
Kalamazoo Mayor David Anderson says it will become a vital part of the life of the community.
If all goes as planned, the new structure, with its environmentally efficient design and a multi-purpose space for the community, will be opened in the summer of 2023.
