LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The state Department of Natural Resources reports that the ice on Gun Lake is not at a safe level yet, and is telling ice fishermen to stay off the lake for at least another week.
Officials with the DNR say that there are spots of soft/slushy ice that could result in people falling through and into the lake, so those wishing to fish should remain off of the lake.
The department stated that on any lake in Michigan, those who venture out should be wary of spots of weakness in the ice, and that they should always wear a life preserver as a protective measure in case the ice does give way.
