US Supreme Court not taking up lawsuit against Michigan for COVID-19 shutdowns

WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO AM/FM) – The U.S. Supreme Court will not take up a lawsuit against the state of Michigan by the owners of The Gym 24/7 Fitness in Alma over the COVID-19 closure ordered by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020.

Randy Clark and Yvette Franco-Clark filed the lawsuit in 2020, saying the closure of gyms across the state for six months that year caused “economic devastation” for their business.

They claimed in the lawsuit that the closure resulted in an “unconstitutional taking” of their property.

The Michigan Supreme Court also declined to take up the case.
