KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s clear that if they had their druthers, most Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners members would rather not meet face to face after the New Year, primarily because they still don’t think they can do it safely.
Commissioners could not agree on a mask mandate for the meetings at their session Tuesday night. What will happen for their next meeting January 4, 2022 remains up in the air.
Commissioner Dale Shugars fears imposing a mask mandate might just stir up controversy, but Commissioner Jen Strebs pounced on Shugars for suggesting they put their own interests above the public’s.
Commissioner Monteze Morales says she barely survived COVID-19 earlier this year, and suggested they should just refuse to meet until it is safe.
The board has administrators to explore holding the meeting at the Epic Center instead, where there is room to social distance, and to look at other alternatives.
