PAW PAW MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that no charges will be filed against a County Deputy and a Paw Paw officer who shot a man who was wielding a knife.
The statement issued by County Prosecutor Susan Zuiderveen stated that Deputy Dan Rowse and Officer Tim McKeekan were justified in their actions, as they believed their lives, and those of others, to be in danger.
The incident occurred on February 18th at around 9:30 pm, at a residence on CR 374, on a call of a home invasion.
Once there, the officers discovered Brad Hirte had broken in and taken a knife.
Hirte was located at another house, where he was confronted by the officers.
Hirte was holding the knife above his head and walking toward the officers when he was shot.
Hirte was treated for his wounds and released from an area hospital in March.
