BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN) – Seven Kellogg Community College baseball players earned postseason National Junior College Athletic Association and/or Michigan Community College Athletic Association awards for their performance on the field this season, and Head KCC Baseball Coach Eric Laskovy was again named MCCAA Coach of the Year.
KCC’s NJCAA and MCCAA postseason baseball award winners include:
- Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Connor Brawley (Dowagiac/Lakeshore High School), MCCAA All-Western Conference Second Team
- Freshman pitcher/infielder Jayden Dentler (Allegan/Otsego High School), NJCAA Division II World Series All-Tournament Team, NJCAA All-Region XII Team, All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA All-Western Conference First Team, MCCAA Western Conference All-Freshman Team
- Sophomore infielder Connor Hnilo (Caledonia/Caledonia High School), NJCAA Division II World Series All-Tournament Team, All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA All-Western Conference First Team
- Freshman pitcher Zachary Marshall (Rockford/Rockford High School), MCCAA Western Conference Honorable Mention
- Freshman outfielder Tate Peterson (Grandville/Grandville High School), NJCAA Third Team All-American, NJCAA All-Region XII Team, All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA All-Western Conference First Team, MCCAA Western Conference All-Freshman Team
- Freshman pitcher Al Thorington (Pinckney/Pinckney High School), All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA All-Western Conference First Team
- Freshman outfielder Kyle Van Liere (Mattawan/Mattawan High School), NJCAA All-Region XII Team, All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA All-Western Conference First Team, MCCAA Western Conference All-Freshman Team, MCCAA Dick Shilts Male Student Athlete of the Year
Laskovy earned his 500th career win this season. He was named MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year and shares MCCAA Co-Coach of the Year honors with Lansing Community College Coach Jordan Kuer. It’s Laskovy’s fourth consecutive MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year honor and 10th MCCAA Coach of the Year/Western Conference Coach of the Year honor since 2007.
KCC’s Bruins finished third in the nation at the NJCAA World Series tournament in Enid, Oklahoma, this month after winning MCCAA Western Conference and NJCAA Region XII regional championships. They finished the year with a 19-7 conference record and a 37-13 record overall.
