KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of scammers attempting to pose as the Sheriff’s Office to defraud area residents.
This comes after Sheriff Richard Fuller recently alerted citizens to a different scam, where callers impersonating Sheriff’s Office employees call residents demanding money under threat of arrest.
In this new scam, reports have been received regarding callers that ask residents to call 269-459-3189 for fingerprinting scheduling. These calls are being made to residents whose fingerprints are needed or required for various reasons.
The answering options pose as an office line for the Sheriff’s Office. This number has been confirmed as one used by scammers in the past and is not a valid number for any area of Kalamazoo County Government, according to officials.
As a reminder, residents should be aware that unsolicited calls may be a scam. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office will not call unannounced to advise a resident of an arrest warrant, or demand payment for fingerprints.
Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call should hang up. Residents can call the Sheriff’s Office main line of 269-383-8745 to verify information.
