LANSING, MI –New data released by Lansing Public Schools sheds light on the success of online learning to this point. According to a report in today’s Lansing State Journal, hundreds of students enrolled in the district haven’t been doing online work regularly this fall.
Nearly 2,000 students, or an average of about 20% of the student body, haven’t regularly attended classes since school started remotely on Aug. 31. The school plans for classes to remain online at least through January 22, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
School officials tell the LSJ they fear frequently absent students could struggle to catch up once they return to full-time learning. Students in seventh through 12th grades had the highest absence rates, according to the school district’s data.
