KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — God’s Kitchen of Michigan will serve a free Christmas dinner from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16 at Wesley Foundation, near the Western Michigan University Campus.
Free rides will be available to and from the event via Kalamazoo Metro Transit. Riders are encouraged to transfer to the Lovell Street bus at the Transportation Center to access the Wesley building, located at 2350 Ring Road North.
“Due to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services extension of their COVID-19 restrictions, we elected to relocate the Christmas dinner from our Douglass Community Association meal site to the Wesley Foundation,” Chairman of God’s Kitchen of Michigan Pastor William Stein said in a statement. “We are truly grateful to Kalamazoo Metro Transit for their efforts to help us celebrate Christmas during these difficult times.”
According to God’s Kitchen, a total of 500 dinners and toys will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Curbside pick up is available to individuals and families arriving by automobile. Participants must be in attendance to receive a meal and toy.
The menu will consist of fried chicken, honey ham, steak, tofurkey, mashed potatoes, cheesy broccoli, wild rice, cake, fruit and bottled water.
In addition, Santa and Mrs. Claus will host the event and hand out toys while supplies last.
The Wesley Foundation is also the current home of Broncos Kitchen, a hunger-relief charity that serves free dinners to food insecure Kalamazoo area college students.
Furthermore, God’s Kitchen of Michigan will dispatch volunteers to deliver 150 dinners at Kalamazoo’s two homeless encampments downtown. The soup kitchen served 62 dinners at Bronson Park and Arcadia Creek Festival Site to the homeless on Thanksgiving.
Cash donations are still needed for the annual Christmas dinner. Donations can be mailed to God’s Kitchen of Michigan, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003, or online at http://www.godskitchenofmichigan.org/donate.
All contributions are deductible from federal income tax.
