BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke beat back a challenge by two others to retain his seat in Tuesday’s General Election.
With 100% of the city’s precincts reporting, Behnke finished with 8,162 votes, or 45.7% of those cast. Lynn Ward Gray finished with 7,585 votes, or 42.5%, with Jerry Steiner in third with 2,116 votes, representing 11.8%.
In the Battle Creek City Commission at-large race, incumbents Kaytee Farris and Sherry Sofia were reelected, although newcomer Carla Reynolds was the top votegetter at 29.0%.
Calhoun County Sheriff Steve Hinkley and Prosecutor David Gilbert both won their contested races, with 62nd District State House Democrat Jim Haadsma and 63rd District Republican Matt Hall both winning. Haadsma narrowly defeated Republican challenger Dave Morgan 51.3%-48.7%.
