KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One person is injured and a suspect is at large after a shooting on Kalamazoo’s Northside.
It happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of Krom Street near East Prouty Street.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a victim struck by gunfire and when they arrived they located a 28-year-old Kalamazoo resident who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No suspect description or any other details have been released at this time.
This shooting incident was only a couple blocks away from a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning, killing 54-year-old Kalamazoo resident Robert Earl Johnson when someone shot into his home. A suspect has been arrested in that incident.
Kalamazoo has seen a recent spike in gun violence. Last week, five separate shootings occurred in less than a week. The city has seen 12 homicides so far this year. There were 10 reported last year.
