Signup for the Dairy Margin Coverage Program begins Tuesday. Known as DMC, the effort is a voluntary risk management program offering dairymen protection when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed price, or the margin, falls below a dollar amount chosen by the producer. DMC payments have so far been triggered for 13,000 operations enrolled in the risk management program this year. There is an online decision tool set up at the FSA website to help you calculate total premium costs and administrative fees that come with DMC participation. Signup runs through December 11th.
