LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The state is waiving permit fees for wood gathered from public forests.
The season started on Friday.
The normal $20 fee is waived because many offices are closed due to the coronavirus. The permits are good for designated state forest land in the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula.
A household can collect up to five cords of wood, although the wood can’t be sold or traded.
The permits are free, but those collecting wood still have to carry one.
They’re available at www.Michigan.gov/fuelwood. In addition, maps are available at the website.
