ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that deputies responded to 32 crashes in one day on the date of 11/11/19.
According to an official press release, the first case noted by the department occurred around 8:30 a.m. Monday at the area of Riverside Dr. and Burke Rd. in Constantine Twsp. for a report of a single vehicle personal injury accident.
The driver was identified as James Hebert, a 54-year-old male from Constantine, MI. Herbert was transported to Three Rivers Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The next case noted by the department occurred two hours later around 10:30 a.m. Deputies were called to M-60 and Roberts Rd. in Fabius Twsp. for a single vehicle accident involving a Semi Tractor-Trailer. The Semi had jack-knifed and partially ran off the roadway.
The driver of the Semi was identified as Christopher Harris, a 35-year-old male from Indianapolis, IN. The semi was removed from the scene without further incident. The section of M-60 from US-131 to Roberts Rd. was shut down by police during the removal of the vehicle.
The third case noted by the department occurred later in the day at 3 p.m. Deputies responded to the area of N. Angling Rd. and Butler Rd. in Nottawa Tswp. for a single vehicle personal injury accident.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jesse Stokes, a 27-year-old male from Athens, MI. Stokes was transported to Bronson Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Overall, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 32 accidents in one day, mostly due to weather-related conditions.
Police are reminding motorists to slow down and use caution during severe weather and to also provide themselves ample travel time to reach their destinations.
Meanwhile, AAA has also issued a set of winter driving safety tips for motorists.
Data provided by the Michigan Department of Transportation says that 30 people died on Michigan roadways since last week, making a total of 836 this year.
In addition, 99 more were seriously injured for a statewide total of 4,772 to date.
Compared to last year at this time there are 16 fewer fatalities and 25 fewer serious injuries.
