GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Quinn James has been sentenced to 20 to 30-years in prison for the rape of Mujay Dumbuya in the opening round of a larger prosecution.
Quinn is also charged with kidnapping and killing Dumbuya, an East Kentwood High School student and young immigrant from Sierra Leone, to keep her from testifying at the rape trial.
He is expected to be tried for the more serious crimes early next year.
The 43-year-old seemed to smirk as members of the teenager’s family gave their victim impact statements on Monday.
The 16-year-old was found dead in the West Douglas Neighborhood in Kalamazoo last January.
James could get life if convicted of her death.
