KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A man has been given a year in jail for breaking into the home of a public safety officer.
However, it could have been much worse for Christopher Palmer, who was having an unlucky night last February when he and a friend got their car stuck in a snowbank.
The 27-year-old decided to break in after knocking on the door for help, coming face-to-face with the armed wife of the public safety officer, who said she was protecting her four children sleeping upstairs when she opened fire.
The shooting was later ruled to be justified.
Palmer was given the year in jail and two years on probation and a promise from the judge that, if he screws up again, he will be going to a state prison.
His friend, Kyle Wilson, who never entered the home, was given credit for time served and probation.
