LANSING (WKZO-AM) — It has been revealed that disgraced former lawmakers Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat were preparing to file a lawsuit against Michigan House Speaker Kevin Cotter, the Michigan House and a number of other former aides, and staffers over their treatment by the state legislature.
The pair were forced out of their seats after a sex scandal that spun off a clumsy cover-up and allegations of misconduct in office.
It has now been revealed that they filed a notice of their intent to seek half a million dollars in damages, claiming emotional distress and damage to their reputations earlier this year. They claimed their civil rights were violated prior to her expulsion and his resignation from the House.
They filed the notification before the attorney general filed criminal charges against them. The decision whether to move forward with the civil suit may depend on the outcome of the criminal cases.
