BATTLE CREEK, MI. – (WNWN) – It was a busy overnight for Battle Creek firefighters as they had to battle two fires which broke out within an hour of each other.
A firefighter was injured early Monday morning while battling a house fire at 214 Calhoun Street.
Officials say the firefighter was injured while trying to pull ceilings and walls but declined medical treatment.
The fire was reported at 12:18 a.m.. The occupants were safely outside when firefighters arrived.
Extensive damage was reported to the basement. Crews were on the scene for three hours. The cause is under investigation but officials say it does not appear to be suspicious.
The first fire was reported at 11:12 p.m. on Sunday night at 1135 South Lakeside Drive. That fire was caused from discarded ash which was placed in a yard waste container outside of the dwelling. A side of the home was damaged. Everyone inside got out safely and no injuries were reported. Crews were on the scene for about an hour.
