GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new collaboration between Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been introduced as of Wednesday, February 12.
The new program is being touted as an “Online Accelerated” program and is meant to help Michigan adults receive a post-secondary degree or certificate.
The program is a part of Whitmer’s goal of having 60% of Michigan adults obtain a certificate or degree by the year 2030.
This new online program will provide opportunities for new students to get a degree or certificate in areas that are said to need the most positions filled, such as cybersecurity, health, computer science, and education.
Whitmer says there are about 100,000 unfilled jobs in these sectors.
In addition, students who successfully complete their first courses will have their tuition reimbursed. Courses will take place online, though it will require two visits to any GVSU campus in Michigan.
Whitmer maintains that this program is a good step into making sure that all Michigan citizens have a good path to post-secondary education.
