KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials at Western Michigan University are reporting another coronavirus case in their community.
Medical Director at WMU’s Sindecuse Health Center Gayle Ruggiero released a statement about the positive case on Wednesday.
According to her letter, the student, who is a university apartment resident, returned home to a permanent residence outside of Kalamazoo County on March 24. No specific details on the patient have been released.
As a precaution, WMU will continue to limit access to the apartment at this time and monitor the situation. They’re also working to notify facilities and custodial workers who have access to spaces that may have been occupied by the patient.
“WMU has taken the necessary steps to provide appropriate social distancing to flatten the curve. I urge you to take advantage of these measures and stay home. The United States has surpassed China with the most COVID-19 cases in the world, and Michigan ranks among the top states in the U.S. for positive cases,” stated Ruggiero.
This comes after three WMU students tested positive for the coronavirus and one student passed away due to the illness.
Anyone who experiences any of the COVID-19 symptoms should contact their local health provider or contact the Sindecuse Health Center at (269) 387-3287 for further guidance.
