KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials at Western Michigan University say three of their students have tested positive for COVID-19.
One of the patients was last on campus on March 10th and notified the university that they tested positive while on the east side of the state.
The second student resides off campus and developed symptoms after distance learning began. They have been in isolation and are following the Kalamazoo County health department’s protocols.
The third student lives on campus and also became symptomatic after distance learning began. They remain in isolation in a dorm room. No other details have been released at this time.
All persons who may have been in contact with these students have been notified and health officials are monitoring the situation. Officials say there are no additional precautions required for the public.
Medical Director for the Sindecuse Health Center Gayle Ruggiero says there may be other members of the campus community who have developed symptoms or are being treated or tested in other locations, but these are the only three cases of which they are aware of.
Anyone who experiences any of the symptoms should contact their local health provider or contact the Sindecuse Health Center at (269) 387-3287 for further guidance.
