LANSING, MI — Both Consumers Energy and DTE are headed to court to stop Michigan’s Prop 2 from taking effect, even after it passed this week with an overwhelming majority of Michigan voters.
More than 80% of Michigan voters embraced a statewide ballot proposal that targeted corporate political spending. It’s future is now uncertain, legal experts say.
The “money out of politics” measure would ban regulated utilities and companies – with more than $250,000 in government contracts – from contributing to political campaigns in the state. The ban also extends to top executives and board members. In addiiton, it strengthens certain political ad disclosure requirements.
